Return to Newbridge

Spotted at Shifford Lock

are your ropes secure

The EA have a sense of humour after all ......

Also spotted at Shifford Lock - by John this time!

It was a lovely short cruise downstream to Newbridge from Shifford Lock, particularly as the sun was out. The cloud formations were also amazing as they marched across the sky.

Newbridge across the fields

The blue posts are mooring posts - but the moorings are £3/night - not for us. Anyway, at some points the only boats that could get in would be rowing boats or maybe a cruiser that did not mind being out from the bank! The Maybush is on the right and has limited moorings for patrons. It is an ancient Inn and has been the resting place for many travellers over the years.

Now which arch is it?

Fourth from the right is the highest

A close up of the bridge shows the mellow stone and the buttresses. I have not seen many bridges that are more attractive than this one.

The Rose Revived has moorings for patrons, but we were not stopping here either. They are just downstream from these overhanging willows.

Not far downstream from The Rose Revived are some rough moorings - we found the first one, against a field beside the towpath. It was ideal - we were only disturbed as we moored by the canoes as they returned to the club near the pub. It is also in walking distance of the pub so worth remembering if you want a mooring away from the pub noise but fancying imbibing after a cruise! Strangely, we were not tempted.

Once it was dark, John took this out of our porthole at about 17.30. The evenings are really drawing in now.
