Back on the Grand Union Main Line

2 hours 47 mins, 2.06 miles, 11 locks

Like a lot of people, we had snow last night. Not as much as some but enough to lay on the towpath and roof. However it was a glorious morning, sunny and crisp. The remains of the snow made the journey up the remaining 10 locks of the Aylesbury Arm a pretty one .

Finally, we saw these! They were not that interested in us though!

Black Jacks lock was lovely in the sun.

We had a phone call before we left - our friends Geoff and Gill were in the vicinity, vising friends, would we like to see them? You bet we would! Nb Petroc (their boat) is wintering in a marina and they have returned to Cornwall for the winter. Perhaps they can't keep away from the canals in the meantime

As we approached lock 3 there was a lovely lady waiting for us!
Gill was rapidly recruited as crew

Geoff and their daughter Bo were walking with the dog Parga and would meet us somewhere!

The 2 lock staircase was straightforward although we were being followed by a Challenger boat who emptied the bottom lock as we filled the top! In a hurry? Maybe?

We turned right (South) at Marsworth junction and moored to go for lunch at the Bluebell cafe there. It was busy as it is half term but we enjoyed lovely toasted sandwiches and caught up with the news from Cornwall with Gill.

After lunch we moved the boat above the next lock (39), to moor by the reservoir - a nice mooring. We then went back to the Angler's Retreat for a drink with them all. Geoff and Bo had survived their 7 mile walk through the snow and mud and were ready for a rest! It was great to see them all - hope to see you again soon!

Our weather station is forecasting rain not snow tonight, so we shall see what tomorrow brings forth!
