Nether Heyford to Stoke Bruerne

3 hrs 42 mins, 8.18 miles, 0 locks

We were woken at 6am by 6 working boats - it was the Jam 'ole Run. We were expecting them as we knew the schedule. The boats were due to be 7 but one dropped out unfortunately.

John was awake enough to get the camera and snapped Corona and Warbler, saying good morning to the skippers at the same time!

It looks as if we may see them again as they will be returning our way. I wonder if it will be so early next time

We managed to get about another hours sleep and then we prepared to say our farewells to No Problem and Moore 2 Life after a photo session!

It was a little windy but not really cold and when we got to Gayton Junction with the Northampton Arm we stopped for water and the necessary!

Just after Bugbrook we encountered Aber 101 coming through Banbury Lane Bridge (43), followed closely by another boat. We slowed to a stop to let them through.

There are a number of new marinas - Heyford Fields (before Gayton) and Blisworth that have appeared since we did this section many years ago! 1973 to be precise, on our first ever canal holiday.

Blisworth tunnel was our next target - the third longest in the country and again something we remember from years ago!

Blisworth Mill has been restored extremely well and is now residences.

Ten minutes later and we were at Blisworth tunnel.

The tunnel was restored in 1985 and the brickwork is very good. There is room for two boats to pass but we were the only ones traversing it's length. It is a bit wet at the ventilation shafts and in a couple of other places!

It had begun to rain a bit but by the time we arrived at Stoke Bruerne it was really raining hard. Not a problem as we did not plan to do the locks today. We are moored a little away from them and the pub. A good spot to explore from tomorrow.
