Something for the weekend

It is fairly quiet where we are moored although the Henley Festival is taking place just down stream.

Each evening so far there have been launches going downstream on the River Thames to the festival .....

Their occupants are all dressed up in DJ's ready for a night out. It must be great to live upstream and take your own boat down to the festival, watch a show and then the fireworks. Later they come back upstream in the dark, a lock full at a time, usually just after I have managed to get to sleep!

During the day "normal" traffic resumes. Normal, in that cruisers and narrowboats still ply the waters with the occasional launch or rowing boat.

We waved to Nick Ferrar (one of our blog readers) on hire narrowboat Broughton as he went past - hope you are enjoying your cruise Nick. This wonderful boat was a complete surprise ...

Sternwheeler New Orleans

Sternwheeler New Orleans

It is owned by Hobbs of Henley and evokes the Mississippi River; I could almost hear a Jazz Band Playing the blues! (next time! Ed.)

I managed to get another photo as it went down stream after sunset. What a lovely way to see the river.

Less romantic, but still with the same views, the Waterman passed us too - another party was taking place on board.

In the morning we are woken by ducks. They love eating the weed that clings to the hull at the water line. We have got used to hearing the tap, tap of the bills against steel.
