Something different on our way downstream towards Reading

If you keep you eyes out when cruising you can usually spot something of interest even if it is familiar territory. Once again we swapped moorings with narrowboat Petroc and took on a passenger!

Leaving Petroc at Pangbourne Meadows

So what did I spot? .....

Some things were amusing, some interesting and some were photographically entertaining. First off, I was impressed by the kit that this fisherman had staked out at the end of the moorings at Pangbourne. What an array of rods.

I was in the bows with our passenger, Gill, who had hitched a lift to Reading as she had some bits and pieces to do. So the first few photos are all John's and I must give him credit!

I think I just may have mentioned that mooring at Mapledurham is problematic - there are charged moorings on the off side above the lock, but nothing on the Thames path side. Except ...

Pole Star on mooring

Narrowboat Pole Star on the only free mooring

This is above the lock and has been occupied every time we have passed. We last saw Pole Star at Theale on the K and A canal. I wonder if there is room for two narrowboats?

Talking of familiar narrowboats (again), look who posted a photo of us at Pangbourne (scroll down their photos) - nb Rock and Roll. We have never met, but they know boaters we know etc ..... Next time we will have to say "hello", George and Carol. I think we were off exploring when you passed.

We stopped above Mapledurham Lock for rubbish (there is recycling here too) and elsan and then moved down onto the lock landing. We had to wait quite a while for the lock because....... to be continued
