Napton towards Braunston - but we stopped short!

3.93 miles, 1 hr 49 mins, lock 1, 2.69 lock/mph

We planned a morning of jobs - painting and also washing and polishing Epiphany. Unfortunately for John the pound had dropped too far to do the painting.  So I inveigled him into washing and polishing

After lunch we set off down the one remaining lock - having only just enough room to get out of the lock thanks to a work hopper moored just below. We needed to shove the bows off. I told the chap who eventually came to help that a longer boat would have found it impossible. He did not seem to care!

So we cruised around Napton Hill, taking the obligatory photo of the windmill (and scrap yard)! I prefer this one!

Napton Bridge Inn is reputedly haunted - not a place to stop then!

Soon Napton Narrowboats is in sight - not so many boats out this week but a couple of interesting boats.

One in build and the other is one of two destined for the French canals?

Wigrams Turn marina is now at the junction and I can imagine that at times this bit is very congested, but today it was deserted except for us!

Brindley no longer has problems with hills and valleys in this section so for the most part the canal straightens out. The next place of passing interest is Lower Shuckborough with its Victorian church.

The sun kept peeking out and as we went under bridge 103 we spotted some pleasant moorings and so joined a couple of other boats against the piling. It is a long stretch so no noise from the neighbours!
