Too many BW signs?

On the moorings at Kintbury on the Kennet and Avon Canal there are a proliferation of signs. One of the reasons is this trip boat which was moored below Kintbury Lock.

Whether these signs are OTT I will leave you to judge, but cannot let them go without some comment ......

The following signs are repeated all along the moorings, in case boaters miss them!

This sign is fairly straightforward and we have no problem with it, except we don't understand the bottom one.

48H VM sign

BW 48H mooring sign

This one is a little more controversial.

consideration sign

The houses are over the other side of the canal - a fair way from the moorings. We are temporary residents here and as a residential narrowboat (with all the that is needed in a floating home) need to run our engine a bit.

mooring and houses

Moored up - showing houses beyond the other side of the canal

We try to show consideration and only run it during the "accepted hours", i.e. between 8am and 8pm. We have also splashed out (and how!) on a "hospital silencer" so our engine is very quiet when outside Epiphany. I would challenge someone in the houses, or even their gardens, to hear it! But I suppose this does not apply to all boats.

Can someone tell me - is this notice enforceable? Can anyone tell me what the line that has been scratched out once said - and who scratched it out on each of the signs?

The third type of sign, that everyone but us seems to have taken notice of, pertains to the trip boat. The horse drawn barge, Kennet Valley is operated by Kennet Horse Boat Company.

Kennet Valley and Vicarafge Bridge

It is a lovely sight and is a wonderful peaceful trip through the countryside to Hungerford.

roof clear sign

I think that the other narrowboats here did not want to risk their items as this notice below suggests and one has their plants on the towpath.

risk notice

So our risk then .... but we bucked the trend and left everything on our roof - and you will be familiar with our "attic" contents! When the horse boat - the Kennet Valley -  passed by this morning John spoke to the horse handler - "not a problem" was the reply and he jumped up on our roof and nimbly ran across and around the obstacles. I wish I was so agile!

passengers on Kennet Valley

The passengers had a good look at Epiphany whilst they were enjoying the jazz band!

The horse plodded on regardless towards Vicarage Bridge and on the return journey it was a repeat performance.
