Look who came to see us and a strange mooring notice

There we were, minding our own business, happily moored, when we were disturbed by the boat with this moniker

On side of African Queen

Last seen above Mapledurham Lock, it now loomed large in our sights - it was time to "rock and roll"  .......

This is what we saw as we looked out of a porthole - the African Queen had decided to turn right beside us - the bow loomed!

Happily the River Thames at Pangbourne is so wide that we were not in the way - a mere narrowboat would not bother this lovely "monster" and we were not moving too much either.

Another visitor was much more insignificant, but also lovely. A duck family lives over the way and they were out for a swim. The seven ducklings were frolicking in the blossom (and scum) on the river - ahhh ....

We spotted this strange notice this morning as we went to shop and explore. Can anyone explain why Pangbourne Parish Council would not want anyone to moor on a park bench for longer then 24 hours?

No Mooring sign

As we had come in to moor on Pangbourne Meadows, we saw (so took note of) the sign, although the yellow posts can be hard to see from the river. A "Le Boat" hire cruiser had obviously missed them and was moored between!

Why did the 24 hour restriction sign not go below the other sign, facing the water, so that it could be seen by potential moorers on the river? Perhaps it was put up by someone who is not a boater! When (if) the Council starts charging for the moorings, we suggest it should consult some boaters about the signage.
