Posh pubs and posh neighbours

Once past Moulsford Prep School, Cleeve Lock is not far away - our one lock of the day. Sheridan Marine has a chandlery and is home to Freeman Cruisers - all moored there today!

Before Cleeve Lock are two well known waterside establishments. Neither appear to have moorings for the "casual" visitor and have to be pre-booked, we think.

The Beetle and Wedge Boat House Restaurant has three "classic" boats to hire and states that they "welcome customers arriving by helicopter"! A bit out of our league then!

It is on the site of the old Moulsford Ferry, mentioned in Jerome K. Jerome's Three Men in a Boat and patronised by the modern Three Men in a Boat on the TV show of the same name.

This very avant-garde house was newly built when we were here in the early 2000s - the garden has developed and it looks less stark now.

A bit further downstream is the Leatherne Bottel. John once stopped here, but decided it was too expensive!

At Cleeve Lock, we "cleaned up". The disadvantage of mooring under trees is what they shed - bits, blossom, stickiness and birds have a habit of roosting in them too! Epiphany was covered in all this, Why do birds like dark blue to leave deposits on - our car was the same! So out came the brush, bucket and boat shampoo for a very quick clean of the worst side whilst we filled the water tank.

It was then a very quick trip to somewhere just above Goring Lock - we managed to moor against the Thames Path again on the west bank - but this time in the open!

We have "posh" neighbours opposite - a big house or flats, I am not sure which. It is rather a nice place to live anyway! How they feel about a narrowboat moored opposite I will not speculate! We have been joined by another narrowboat this evening so now we are two!
