More on Friday

A hot Easter - well I never. Once, we had snow at Easter, when we were on the Stratford Canal. Last year, we were on the Monty at Maesbury and in 2009, we were in Chester. The River Thames has really turned the charm on and taking the cruise downstream slowly is wonderful. We can visit some lovely places!

Bluebells in Wallingford

So what is on offer in Wallingford for our Easter this year?

In the Market Place is Mary-le-More and this is our choice for our Easter services. St Leonard's ChurchSt Leonard's Church, nearer the Thames, is the older second church in the parish.

The largely Victorian church stands on the site of a smaller medieval church. The tower was built using stones from the demolished castle. The inside has been recently refurbished - all the pews have been taken out creating a wonderful space for worship and community events.

The beautiful rood screen is modelled on a medieval one and the pulpit is of Italian marble.

The Choir and the Sanctuary are lined in marble and is a lovely quiet place.

The Choir and Sanctuary

By total coincidence, Wallingford Parish Choir was on BBC Breakfast this morning (and are on Songs of Praise on Sunday) as they have recently won the accolade of "Britain's Favourite Church Choir". The Choir are TV veterans, as Wallingford is Midsomer Murders "Causton" and they have appeared in lots of episodes.

Cross of thorns - an Easter image to ponder on

We went to the Good Friday service yesterday afternoon at Mary-le-More. The Choir were there and they are very good! We intend to return for the Easter Day service.
