Oxford Canal - Yarnton to Shipton

2.23 miles, 1hr 53m, Locks 1, Sw bridges 1, 1.7 lock/mph

Fairly slow progress yesterday Our friends on Faith, Graeme and Louise set off before us and it was goodbye for a while as they were pressing on to their mooring for the winter.

After our farewells we left Yarnton Bridge not long after them.

We watered up at Langford lane Bridge (224). The tap is easily missed as it at the end of a line of moorings and tucked away just before the bridge!

There was a queue down at Roundham lock (42) but we met a boat coming out very conveniently and were locked through by crews from boats above!

I felt sorry for this poor bollard - protected by DEFRA rash from angry boaters -

Bridge 223, Sparrowgap, brought us to the Jolly Boatman of last Sunday's fame! Passing moorings in a short while we reached Thrupp. The Boat Inn there is another well known pub.

The cottages on the wharf are pretty and there are 7 day moorings - full of course!

After Aubrey's lift bridge (221), the canal takes a sharp left as part of a winding hole and immediately we were among the boats and moorings at Thrupp Yard.

A convenient BW barge enabled us to moor up opposite the services (moorings taken by a hotel boat pair) to empty the necessary!

Arriving at Shipton on Cherwell we moored before the bridge. Just where the photo in Nicholson (page 141) shows

We were disappointed with the same view now, as the trees have grown and obscure the view of the church.

7 day mooring here too, but we will only be staying a couple of days.

The weather has been glorious and so this afternoon it is boat washing and painting for both of us.
