The Oxford Canal, Epiphany's Firsts

3.88 miles, 2h43m, Locks:2 Lift bridges 2, 2.15 lock/mph

It does feel strange to be on a narrow canal with Epiphany! Isis lock was her first narrow lock and John's first  as helmsman on her!

After our prolonged stay at Jericho and all our sightseeing it was good to be on the move again on Wednesday. We waited for our first Oxford lift bridge. Our Nicholson is out of date however and the electric lift bridge is no more: replaced by two modern brick bridges. Shame!

St Edwards lift bridge 238 is left up. It is a tight squeeze with our box on the roof!

There are BW Agenda 21 moorings lining the canal here.

Epiphany in Wolvercote lock 45

There is some building work on the roads too around Perry's lift bridge 234 and Wolvercote lock. Wolvercote lock has "the new bollards" in place. Now should we tie up to them or not? (sarcasm intonation is not easy to write ) Nor is Victor Meldrew's " I don't believe it", in the right accent quoted by John! For a bit of light relief about the new bollards, see this link

Duke's Cut is on the left just before Duke's lock. There were no boats about to join us from the Thames, though.

I am so used to the paddles on the K & A that I keep getting a shock when the paddles on these locks suddenly stop.

We carried on and moored just before Kidlington Green lock 43, a very peaceful mooring for the night.

This morning we woke to sunshine and moved about 0.6 of a mile! There were a few boats on the move passing us both ways.

We passed through Kiddlington Green lock and on to the very low Yarnton bridge 228. Again we made it through!

We moored just beyond the bridge as we intend to walk into Yarnton for some shopping. Just as we settled down to lunch there was a nudge from behind. Our friends Graeme and Louise from Faith had said they would eventually bump into us ... and so they did!

It is great to see them again but we shall all be on the move again tomorrow I suspect.
