Out and Back - just like the "old days"

Fenny Marina and Wharf beyond

"Out" was our continued journey in search of diesel. Fenny Compton Wharf was the target and then a reunion with Gill, Geoff and Barney. They met us at the wharf and we had a passenger to the Wharf Inn whilst Geoff walked the towpath with Barney.

Winding in the hole before the bridge we moored up facing south. The Wharf Inn now has a small shop and a launderette, but I am not sure whether if is open in the winter.

It was time to discuss "plans", loose or firm - we may very well meet up afloat this summer as nb Petroc will be cruising the Thames too! We then returned whence we had come "back", towards Cropredy. It felt like the old days when we weekended with an out and back from Devizes. We had sun most of the way, but a short sharp shower when we arrived at Elkington's Lock caught us unawares.

Smoky slipway

I braved the bonfire smoke above Broadmoor Lock - the slipway there is the beginning of a real collection of moored narrowboats, trad, un-restored, new and "interesting"!

Look who we spied at Cropredy Wharf - hope Dave wasn't planning to jump! I think a "boys night" is called for this evening at the Brasenose Arms. A certain Mr Parry, Slee and Fox will enjoy the hostelry, me thinks!
