Silly me

New camera, first videos

Now deleted - grrr

I have discovered that my photo editing programme does not cope with videos from my camera - the hard way! I did my usual and then deleted the photos from the media card so all the wonderful videos that John shot of Dusty breaking ice are lost for ever. I don't think we will ask him to come back and do it again as it was very hard work and quite frightening to see the heavy coal and fuel boat bucking around as it hit the ice.

Still we have some good stills and I have uploaded a number to our website - clickety click for the whole album! Here is a taster .......

Sparrowgap and DustyApproaching Sparrowgap Bridge

Through the bridgeThrough he comes

The bows of the boat were thrown around as Dusty put it into full throttle mode to make progress - so much so that at times his progress was zig zag up the canal. It was a case of forward a bit, back again a way and then forward again on full throttle. Quite a sight!

John began trying to make life easier for Dusty, but the ice was too thick to do much

Dusty came powering past us - full throttle but not making much progress. He continued beyond us and then reversed back, also not an easy task!

We were refuelled stern to stern

Dusty was off again then - backwards to get into mid stream and then he gradually made his way to the corner, a little forward, back again and full throttle forward again.

He deserves an award - it is amazing that he does this for narrowboaters, regular customers and "casuals" like us.

Thank you Dusty,  one of "the good guys"; hope to see you soon on your run back down with fuel and coal.
