The Thrupp contingent are on the move

Thanks to another "D" word there are ice floes in the canal now!

Dusty the coal man deserves an award - he made it to Thrupp yesterday evening after an intrepid 14 day journey. It normally takes him 4 days. The ice barrier is broken, albeit temporarily.

There was great excitement as coal bags were hefted onto roofs, diesel glugged into tanks and gas bottles were exchanged. Gas bottles are in short supply, as the only Propane bottling plant is snow-locked in Scotland apparently, so we need to be frugal with our gas supply.

It was too dark for us to take a photo of him when he arrived alongside us, but Narrowboat Wrens Nest had pictured him arriving (Chris and Joy were very glad to see him too!) - clickety click

Now that there is less ice, narrowboats are hastily moving to empty tanks, fill up with water and return to their mooring before the next freeze sets in at the weekend.
