How to enjoy an enforced stay!

What a lot is going on in Reading! The evening view from our bows before we moved to get water at a local pub.

This Heritage Open Day weekend means that the enforced stay here has been more enjoyable than we expected.

We have been lucky to to have friendly neighbours and we have been socialising with Graeme and Louise on nb Faith quite a bit.

Friday evening we visited them and had a great time. Yesterday they came here for drinks and nibbles and in the evening after the meal we went to watch last night of the Proms with them on Faith. It has been good fun getting to know them and we have a fair bit in common apart from boats and canals!

Yesterday was a busy day, well in the afternoon anyway. After drinks and lunch we all decided that we would go on the Pied Piper guided walk around Reading, supposedly pointing out crime and notorious sites in the city.

It was quite interesting and we followed a guide stopping at various points along the way. Hopefully soon I will add photos of Reading to a separate album for those interested.

We finished up near the Town Hall - handy as we wanted to go into its Concert Hall as there was a session explaining and demonstrating their Father Willis organ. Arguably as well known as the one in Truro Cathedral although there is some debate as to which has the best sound! Need I say what we think?

John did not take too much persuasion to have a go - in fact he could have stayed there for quite a while given the choice!

The evening was warm and very pleasant and we had a spectacle of six or seven Virgins flying over us! camera 4

This morning we went to St Marys in the Butts for the morning service. It was "Smells and Bells" but not too over the top. The Rector there is a Queens Chaplain who presided, although one of his Vicars sermonised.
We enjoyed the service and the church is quite imposing and interesting as most of the churches here are.

The Thames is still running fast - latest report via Graeme and Louise who have just returned from walking to Kennet Mouth. So0 are we looking at moving Tuesday now?! DRY FEW DAYS - 5.30 forecast!!
