Choices

To cruise or not to cruise?

Ah - that is the question (of the day)!

One of the advantages of winter cruising for us is that we do not have a schedule to keep to. Our choice this winter was to be on the South Oxford Canal knowing that there would be stoppages that prevent us cruising north and that the River Thames is ahead of us further south. We do not plan the Thames until later in 2011 as this is the year we buy a gold licence to "do" the EA waters in the south.

It will be back to motor cruiser land and locks like Caversham Lock!

So when the weather decides to turn against us - rain and wind today - we choose not to move. Oh dear, we have become "fair weather sailors"! However the attractions of Oxford, the company of more good friends and tickets for Bellowhead tomorrow evening means that we move tomorrow - a mere matter of a few miles and a few locks!

Oxford is putting on its Christmas Market just in time for our arrival - from the 26th November. I wonder how it will compare with the one in Birmingham.

Strangely from not having a schedule, we seem to have acquired one! NABO AGM at the weekend, hospital appointment the next and then a family visit! Simon Salem (BA. MBA) Marketing Director from BW will be at the NABO AGM to take questions from those attending. I am sure he will have to answer some hard questions; we certainly have a few for him!

After the fog of yesterday, when we could not see the canal ahead of us, I do have a question about this mooring. Why has the narrowboat in front of us moved back about 50 yards under cover of the fog? Was it the sight of our bows 15 yards away blocking his view or did he just move to a new "place" so he can stay longer than 14 days!
