A treat at Banbury

Passing through or stopping?

We sauntered down to the Mill Arts Centre to get our wrist bands for the Banbury Folk Festival and who should be coming through as we crossed the bridge back to Epiphany? This fabulous pair of restored working boats on their Autumn Coal Run to the Thames. They are owned by the Narrow Boat Trust.

Nuneaton and BrightonMotor Nuneaton and Butty Brighton pass Epiphany

Sadly this is only a phone photo as I did not have my camera with me but if you look carefully you can see Brighton is full of coal. For those of you who are knowledgable about these things Nuneaton is a "Large Northwich", all steel riveted built by W.J Yarwood and sons in Northwich, Cheshire. She was launched in 1936 with a £900 National diesel engine. Originally she was paired with the wooden butty "Nunhead".

Brighton is an all steel butty butty known as a "Large Woolwich". Built by Harland and Wolff at, you guessed it, Woolwich!  Costing £400, she was launched in 1935 and was originally paired with Motor Boat Bristol.
