The sun welcomes me back

Yes really - we have had a sunny warm afternoon in Reading. I got back from Banbury/Cropredy about 11.45 and there it was, something in the sky that I had not seen for a while!

The train trip to and fro gave me a chance to see the Thames as the line crosses it 2 or 3 times. It looked fast, muddy and uninviting!

The railway also goes near to the Oxford canal in places and the water level is very high - so high that in one section it was indestinuishable from the flooded fields around it. Only the moored boats delignated the canal. On my return journey the bank had appeared so the level must have dropped some.

John walked to Caversham lock on the Thames yesterday and had a chat with the lock keeper. He reckoned that the red boards might come down in a couple of days providing we do not have much more rain.

The weir looked very fierce!

There are also some boats moored at Tesco on Thames waiting for the reds to come down.

Meanwhile we occupy ourselves as best we can. This afternoon we walked back to County lock on the K & A and then back via the Oracle where we indulged in a Ben and Jerrys ice cream - yum!

The boat behind us - nb Faith is owned by Graham and Louise ( New Zealanders). They are very friendly and we have been chatting most days. We invited them on board to have a look at Epiphany and they very kindly invited us on board Faith for a drink.

We had a good natter as boaters do! They have met Brian and Irene from nb Rangitoto who have a Bath Narrowboats boat built not long after Epiphany. We got to know them quite well as it was in build. Stangely they all live a couple of streets away from each other - small world!
