Coming or Going?

A Tale of Two Bridges

Mooring at Nimrod Bridge was an excellent idea. It is on the main A425 from Southam, which has a very good Fish and Chip shop. Carolyn's other half, John, could therefore bring both my chief cook and bottle-washer and four large portions of F&C, parking the car on the hard standing on the bridge. After a pleasant evening Fi and I were left alone on narrowboat Epiphany again. Hurrah!

Narrowboat Petroc had moored a bit behind us, to ensure a satellite TV signal no doubt!

The news in the morning was not so good. No, Fi hadn't fallen ill, but a phone call from the hospital required her to go back to the hospital for another blood test. The problem was, transport needed a postcode so that they would know where to collect her and we didn't know Nimrod Bridge's postcode. Quick thinking was called for. Knowing the area quite well, I offered the Folly Inn at Napton as a suitable location for the taxi to collect Fi, and a quick Google found the necessary postcode. I estimated that it would take around an hour and a half to cruise to the winding hole about ¾ mile away, and then retrace our propellor turns to the Folly Inn on the South Oxford Canal. That would hopefully result in a contemporaneous meeting.

Sadly we had to say a couple of hurried goodbyes to Geoff and Gill (one in each direction!) and a huge thank you for their company and help. So once again it was back to Napton Junction - on a day with totally different weather from yesterday. We knew which we preferred.

Goodbye narrowboat Petroc Napton Junction in the sun

The Napton-on-the-hill windmill was looking splendid against the blue sky today:

We decided to moor above the bottom lock so that the mooring (48 hour max) was close to the second of the two crucially accessible road bridges: the Folly Bridge. About ten minutes after we had moored, the taxi arrived, so off Fi went again, and I was left alone again, unnaturally.
