So how did it look from the bows?

As we crossed under the Pennines in Standedge Tunnel, I took videos of some of the sections. So, before we leave the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, this is your opportunity to experience our experience!

If you would like to hear what was going on, including some "interesting" chat in the bows and the shouted remarks and guidance from the stern, turn your computer sound levels up!

N.B. The Higher Quality videos are only suitable for fast home broadband downloading because of their size; the first (mobile) link for each is still around 2MB each - a lower quality version of the same thing!

    Fi,

Thanks very much for the video clips - I felt I was there with you.

However, I am a little puzzled about how it all works.

You made mention about being "shadowed" by someone in another tunnel and, in the clip, it is obvious that someone shouts out to you and you reply that you are all OK.

So, how do they shadow you? On foot, by bicycle or what?

    Best regards,

    Stephen

    Hi Stephen,
As far as I understand BW "shadow" in a vehicle in one of the adjoining tunnels and make contact with the "guide" at the adits. One adit is quite a climb up from the Standedge Tunnel so the "shadower" comes down to check. Otherwise they are in contact by phone.
The "controller" in the office at Tunnel End can see where the boat is on a panel of lights.
    Hope this explains!
    WBW,
    Fi
