A quick blog for a short journey!

Moored at GnosallIt was a glorious morning

We set out for Norbury, enjoying the sunshine and the warmth on our faces. The joy of cruising in good weather - it is so therapeutic. After Gnosall Bridge (35) and the Navigation Inn, the canal enters a lovely wooded cutting before emerging on the "run up" to Shelmore Embankment.

The WrekinTo our left was the famous Wrekin

Almost immediately, we could see where some of the repairs had been necessary. The flow of water revealed the "puddle-like" repair just below the waterline.

The Embankment collapsed during construction and potential leaks have to be dealt with promptly, otherwise a serious breach would flood the properties and land below.

The moorings at Norbury Junction were fairly full of narrowboats, but we were able to find one quite near to the remains of the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal. There are plans afoot to restore this canal. The Shrewsbury and Newport Canal Trust has a comprehensive website for more information on the proposed restoration - clickety click
