Another petition to sign! Please read on!

Portcullis

So the "bad boys" - the Treasury (aka the Government) this time - are threatening to sell BW's property portfolio. But can we boaters have it both ways?

One minute we are protesting about the plans to scat down the yard at Marsworth to build houses, now we are petitioning against the idea of selling off BW's property.

Maybe it is splitting hairs but this is a different slant on the property subject. It would mean no ongoing income at all from the properties owned by BW.

Chairman Tony Hales stated "We [BW] generate almost half of our maintenance budget through property related activities". Whilst we might wonder where this is spent, it is obviously a revenue stream that is important to the future of our canals. Click here for the full article about BW's response to the Treasury proposal.

What is impressive is that BW themselves have published a special Boaters' Update supporting the petition. Is this a first?

So it is an important petition - it is already in the top 50 No.10 petitions, let's get it on the front page! Sign up here

Boaters, walkers, anglers, canoeists, nature lovers, gongoozlers, eco warriors, in fact the whole population can sign, as it potentially affects the long term use and life of our "National Asset". This means YOU!

Maybe it should be the SNOTT Campaign - Say No to The Treasury - ha ha...
