Find your TV Satellite

with Google Maps

Frustrated that you can't find the satellite to get your TV working when you moor up?

We have been several times, but we found this useful facility after one such crisis.

All you do is enter the latitude and longitude in the box above the map and press "Enter". We use Navvygator from WaterExplorer to give us those coordinates, but you can equally use your SatNav.

The map will refresh and a green line will appear, with a green balloon over the place you specified. You can move the balloon by dragging it if you didn't quite get the location of your satellite dish right.

Then point your satellite dish in the direction shown and you should have a lock on the satellite.

Of course, you may need to adjust the satellite dish slightly to get the optimum signal.

Below the map you will see some extra information. In particular, the lnb skew tells you how much to rotate the LNB (the thing that sits on the end of the arm facing the dish) - a minus figure means rotate it anticlockwise - but only a few degrees.

This should work for both Sky and Freesat, since they both use the Astra2 satellite.

If you want to read a little more about it, go to DishPointer.com

NB We cannot be held responsible for any domestic disagreements that result from using this facility. You use this at your own risk! Oh, and if we've got anything wrong, please let us know.
